Catchin’ Up!

I have to say that it has been awhile since I’ve blogged but I’m hoping this blog and pictures will make up for it! My last blog was in June so I’m going to catch y’all up with the highlights of the past 4 months! Brannon and I went to St.Augustine Beach with my Best Friend, Delaine and her husband, Jonathan for fun in the sun and also a photo shoot with Photography By Delaine Spradley herself. We had a great time on the beach and also got some great photos! I have done lots of photo shoots for different boutiques the past few months as well so I have been staying busy with that, hunting and work. As you know, if you have read my blogs or interviews in the past I love to hunt but I LOVE to hog hunt and we have got some dandy’s the past couple months. My husband and I also got our 1^st deer/buck with a bow opening week! I can’t even put into words what a rush that was to me! Let’s just say I’m hooked for life! One of the biggest highlights was my trip with my Dad to Colorado hunting pronghorn with Brandon of High Plains Adventures. We live in North Florida and we drove out to Colorado, it was great to spend that time with my Dad, it felt like old times when we would go to the woods together. The hunt was a success for both of us! We both got nice bucks and I also got to pick up my Bison mount which is HUGE and looks great hanging on my wall! I’m still waiting on Dave to take me duck hunting but until then I make do with dove hunting. Our 1^st phase was last month and we had some great shoots. Maybe one day I can blog about my 1^st duck hunt….hint hint! I made the cover of Going South magazine so if you get a chance check it out, www.gssmagazine.com. Jammin’ in Jacksonville!

I haven’t blogged in a long time so I thought I’d share my eventful weekend. I lucked up and won some concert tickets on the local radio station to go see Jake Owens and Keith Urban in concert in Jacksonville, Florida. We headed out this past Friday, got to the hotel where we met Brannon’s cousin TJ and his wife Christy, got ready and headed to the arena. Once we got inside the place it was packed with my kind of people, “country folk”! We hit up the concession stand where they had everything from Bud Light to Crown Royal and then we made our way to our seats! Keith put on an awesome show! Once the show was over we got a cab to the landing on the St. Johns River and we went to a club called Mavericks. The bar is awesome, two stories with a bull and plenty of dance floors! We stayed there and danced, watched people ride the bull and did sum drinkin! My drink of choice is Crown and a lil Coke, everyone else had some beer. We stayed till closing time and got back to our room at 4am. It was a long night but a fun one. The next morning we got up and headed to the spa. I surprised Brannon with a couples massage. Talk about heaven for an hour!! It was an awesome massage followed by champagne and Jacksonville’s finest homemade chocolate cover cherries! Once we were done there we stopped at the long horn for a bite to eat and then headed back to our neck of the woods. On our way back my Dad called and invited us to the barn to play some poker with him and my family so we headed to his place, played a few rounds and headed to the river to do some craw fishing. We got to the river about 10pm and snorkeled down the river to the craw fishing grounds where we had our light in hand, ready to tear em up! We got a mess of them we had a great time. We will get at it again this weekend along with some hog huntin’. So, it was eventful weekend for us and I’m hoping we can get into some fun again this weekend. After all, that’s what the weekends are for! Just Sayin’.

High Plains Adventures and Me!

Gators, Hog Action, Fun Times and a Grand Opening!

A week ago Brannon and I headed down south to gator hunt with the “Gatorman” Carl Davison, check him out at davisonalligators.com. We got there Saturday afternoon, got our guns loaded in the truck and headed out to the orange grove canals and lakes to set hooks and see if we could spot any trophy gators. We were meat hunting as well. We saw some gators but they went under before we could get a shot so that’s where we set a line with a Beef Lungs for bait. Once we got all the lines set it was dark so we headed to our room to get some shut eye, which was hard to do because all I could think about was what monster gators may be on those lines in the morning. Well, 6:00 am came fast and Carl and his Wife met us at our hotel ready to Get-R-Dun Gatorman style!! Off we went and our first line didn’t have a gator but the other 7 had gators ranging from 7’ to 10’! Let me tell you, these bad boys put up a fight when pulling the lines in. I got 6 gators that morning and my monster was 10’1. As you can tell in the picture, he was huge!! I took them all with my Winchester model 94 22 mag and my handy ruger single 6. Needless to say, they got the job done! Brannon got his monster with a Ruger 223, which he shot from the truck getting his monster that was 10’7! We had a blast and the Gatorman and his wife are great people. They sure know how to have a blast! If you haven’t hunted gators yet give the Gatorman a call, he can get you on a trophy gator for sure! This past weekend was all about some good times and Hog action for sure! Saturday night Lora and I had a movie night with her kids and we saw the new movie “Soul Surfer” which was great. It had a good meaning about having faith and never giving up on your dreams and goals! Sunday night we went out hog hunting, which Lora doesn’t normally get a chance to do because of work or having to stay home with her kids, but this time she was able to come with us and she seemed to bring us good luck. We got 2 hogs that night! One boar and one barr. That was a great ending to the weekend! Like I have said before, it don’t get much better then some hog dog action!! I’m happy to say that this upcoming weekend I will be at the Equipment & Marine Grand Opening Concert this Friday and Saturday April 22 and 23. Check it out @ www.fredricksoutdoor.eventbrite.com. Blake, Mardi Gras and More!

This past weekend my husband and I headed to Universal Studios for a day of fun riding the rides, taking part in the Mardi Gras parade and attending the Blake Shelton concert, of course! We spent most of the day riding the new rides and and some of my old favorites. After the Mardi Gras parade we headed to the Blake Shelton concert, we tried to get there early because we knew it would be packed, you can see from the pictues below that it was! If you haven’t seen Blake in concert you should! He’s a great singer, he hunts and he isn’t too bad to look at either! After the concert we headed to City Walk and went to Jimmy Buffets and Big Star. It was a fun night and we had a great time. I’m happy to say that I will be heading south again next weekend to da some gator hunting with the GATOR MAN. I hope to get another gator with my bow. I will spend the next weekend turkey hunting and then I will be in Alabama Easter weekend for the Fredrick’s Equipment & Marine Grand Opening concert. Turkey Time!

Yesterday was the first day of our spring gobbler season! My husband Brannon and I were ready to head to the woods on opening morning! We hunted my dad’s river property in Gilchrist which is where we deer hunt every year, but this was our first year turkey hunting on that property. We picked a nice area to set up and started cutting some palmetto fans down and some underbrush to set up around us for cover, then we waited for the sun to come up and for the turkeys to get off the roost. Once the sun started coming up we heard two gobblers’ sound off, one across the river and one down river so we were pumped and ready to see if we could call one our way! Brannon started calling the gobbler down river from us and he was coming closer and closer, then we heard a hen as well which made the bird turn from us a little. Brannon kept at it and before long we could hear him coming our way again! Brannon told me to get ready because he thought they would be coming over that ridge and within about five minutes there were two gobblers about 30 yards away. It took one shot with my Weatherby and he was done with the run. He had a nice beard that was 9 1/2” long and the spurs were 1 1/4”! My husband did an awesome job calling for me with his Woodhaven diaphragm and I’m hoping to get at it again sometime this week before work, or maybe Sunday. I would on Saturday but we will be in Orlando at a Blake Shelton concert! Just Sayin’.

High Plains and Bison

I can now say I had a hunt of a lifetime and also was able to see some beautiful country in Colorado with High Plains Adventures. I have always wanted to go to Colorado to see the beautiful plains and mountains but never thought the opportunity would come to hunt a Bull Bison. My husband and I headed out this past Friday to Colorado Spring, Colorado to meet up with the owner/guide of High Plains Adventures, Brandon McCullough. Check them out at http://highplainsadventures.com. They offer a variety of hunts from Colorado to New Mexico and also have a very successful processing plant. He’s got you covered from your trophy hunt to your meat. We were meeting with Wilson Reynolds of Primal Instinct as well, he was able to get there before we did and score his trophy Bison so when my husband and I got there I was able to see the size of these HUGE Bulls, which to say was WAY bigger than I ever dreamed! I was pumped and ready for my hunt the following day. I got up bright and early for the hunt to meet my guides and head out. The rest you will have to check out this summer on Versus! I will keep you updated as far as when the hunt will air. I can tell you this was a one shot drop and a hunt you won’t want to miss! Just saying!

Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show

This past Friday I flew out of Jacksonville, Florida to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show where I met up with my friend, or shall I say my Uncle Bobby Hart, the President of Custom Hart Rifles. Check them out online at http://www.hartrifles.com. Bobby had told me that this show was HUGE but I never knew what HUGE was until I got there! It was a hunter’s Heaven! From Bobby Hart’s Custom Rifles and camo buggy’s and the well known people on your favorite hunting shows, they had it all at this show! I have to say this was my favorite show by far, nothing compares. The Hart Crew showed me around. I only had one day at this show but I know next year I will be going for at least 5 days. I’m also excited to say that I will be going to Bobby Harts long range shooting school this year. So you better watch out..haha! All I can say is that show still has me saying WOW! I had a blast. I know two things… I will be going to that show next year and if I want a rifle that will drop em in their tracks no matter the distance I will be calling up Uncle Bobby. I have posted a few pictures that were taken at the show for your viewing pleasure. Just Sayin’.

B&R Outfitters!!

This past Sunday my husband Brannon and I had our first hog hunt with Terri from Inverness, Florida. We had planned on an early morning hunt but we were set back some because of rain so we ended up heading to the woods at 10 am. We had the dogs loaded and ready when Terri and her brother Toby got to our location here in North Florida. This was Terri’s first dog hunt and she was excited and ready with her knife and pistol on standby! We got on the buggy and headed out. Once we got down one of the roads we turned the currs out which go by the name of BB, Fannin, and Blaze. They ran ahead like they should and went off a few times but came back so we were thinking about hunting the other side of the property when out of nowhere they struck. They ran out into the woods with their heads held high winding the hog. About 5 minutes later they went to baying about 120 yards from the buggy so Brannon and I grabbed the leashes and took off with Terri following. We ran up to the bay and we were pumped when we saw it. It was a GOOD Boar hog with about 2 ½ inch cutters! Brannon grabbed the hog by the hind legs and I grabbed the dogs. When Terri got there she was pumped and ready and knifed the hog. I know Terri said she’s ready to do another hunt with us and doesn’t know if she wants to sit in a stand ever again after having that kind of rush. That’s How Country Girls Roll

This past week I had a day off from work so I called my friend Lora and we made plans to go on a 4 wheeling adventure, and when I say adventure I mean exactly that, an adventure! I figured we should make it an all day thing so we made plans on leaving her house in Old Town and heading to Suwannee, that’s where the Suwannee River meets with the gulf, which is about 35 miles from where we live! I was excited because I just got my 4 wheeler out of the shop not too long ago and have been itching to take it to the woods. When that morning came around I got up and packed the cooler down with ice and some good drinks! Then I packed the 4 wheeler with every girl’s must haves, a pistol and bullets, MAC Make Up, a flash light and of course some tie rope just in case we ran up on a hog along the way! I drove to Lora’s house and picked her up and off we went! On our way to Suwannee we made a pit stop at Yellow Jacket Boat ramp and went down a few Loop roads through the woods and of course we had to stop to take some pictures and shoot the gun for fun. We made a stop at Salt Creek Point which was nice, then to the restaurant in Suwannee called Salt Creek Restaurant where we had some good drinks and ate some great sea food. After that we filled up our ride at the Marina and headed home. On the way home we somehow got muddy? Who knows how that happened?? Well, maybe my 4 wheeler found its way to a nice mud hole on the side of the road. That had to have something to do with it! We got home about dark thirty and let’s just say we are making plans for our next bigger and better adventure. Just Sayin’.
